The Congress party in India has criticized the government's economic policies by citing a decline in automobile sales, particularly in the entry-level segment, to argue that most Indians are being excluded from the consumption economy. According to Congress spokesperson Gourav Vallabh, data from the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) shows a significant drop in sales of two-wheelers and entry-level cars, suggesting that the purchasing power of the average Indian has diminished. Vallabh contrasted this with an increase in luxury car sales, indicating a growing economic disparity. He accused the government of failing to address unemployment and inflation, which he claims are driving the economic divide.
