A new fiber optic cable between Philadelphia and New York is being tested to improve air traffic control at Newark Liberty International Airport

A construction crew in Newark, New Jersey, accidentally cut through a fiber optic cable, causing a significant disruption to the Federal Aviation Administration's (FAA) communication systems, which led to a temporary halt in flights at Newark Liberty International Airport. The incident occurred on a Wednesday afternoon, and although the cable was quickly repaired, it took several hours for the FAA's systems to fully recover. During the outage, flights were either delayed or diverted to other airports, causing widespread inconvenience. The FAA emphasized that safety was not compromised during the incident, and they are working with the communication service provider to prevent future occurrences.
