Wildlife rescuers in British Columbia are caring for a porcupine that stowed away in a wrecked plane for a trip via helicopter, boat and trailer.

A porcupine caused significant damage to a small aircraft in British Columbia, Canada, after chewing through essential wiring and components while the plane was parked at an airport. The incident, which occurred on June 2, 2025, left the plane grounded and in need of extensive repairs. The aircraft's owner discovered the damage upon attempting to fly, highlighting the unexpected challenges wildlife can pose to aviation safety. Local wildlife experts noted that porcupines are attracted to the salt and other minerals found in aircraft materials, leading to such unusual incidents.
