Michigan House Republican files articles of impeachment against Benson

Michigan House Republican Representative Matt Maddock has filed articles of impeachment against Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson, accusing her of neglecting her duties and undermining election integrity. The impeachment articles claim that Benson failed to maintain accurate voter rolls, did not properly train election workers, and allowed the use of unverified voting machines during the 2020 election. Maddock's move comes amidst ongoing disputes over election procedures and results, with some Republicans questioning the legitimacy of the 2020 presidential election. The filing is largely symbolic, as it is unlikely to gain the necessary support in the Democrat-controlled state House to proceed to a trial in the state Senate.
