"Ten to 14 years ago we were not even in the position to bid for this contract," ComforDelGro CEO Cheng Siak Kian said in an interview with Fortune.

ComfortDelGro, a Singapore-based transportation company, has submitted a bid to operate Melbourne's troubled rail line, aiming to leverage its extensive experience in managing public transport systems across Asia and Europe. The company's proposal comes at a time when the rail line has been facing significant operational challenges, including delays and service disruptions, prompting the local government to seek new management solutions. ComfortDelGro's bid is seen as a potential turning point for the rail line, with the company promising to implement advanced technologies and management practices to improve service reliability and passenger satisfaction. The outcome of the bidding process is expected to be announced later this year, with stakeholders hopeful that ComfortDelGro's involvement could bring much-needed improvements to Melbourne's public transport network.
