Suspicious item sparks evacuation at Auckland Transport HQ

A suspicious item discovered at Auckland Transport's headquarters on Quay Street prompted a significant emergency response and evacuation of the building on June 20, 2024. The item, found in a bathroom, led to the deployment of the police's armed offenders squad and the cordoning off of the area. After thorough investigation, the item was deemed non-threatening, and the building was declared safe, allowing staff to return. The incident caused disruptions, including the closure of nearby roads and the temporary halt of ferry services from the Downtown Ferry Terminal.
