The Utilities and Transportation Commission (UTC) announced that the area code "564
will launch on June 10 in the Seattle area.
A new area code, 564, is being introduced in the Seattle area and surrounding regions to meet the growing demand for new phone numbers, as the existing area code 206 is expected to run out of available numbers by the third quarter of 2025. The new area code will be implemented in the same geographic area currently served by area codes 206, 253, 360, and 425, covering cities such as Seattle, Tacoma, Olympia, and Everett. The Washington Utilities and Transportation Commission approved the new area code to ensure a continued supply of telephone numbers, and it will be assigned to new phone services or additional lines once the current codes are exhausted. Existing customers will retain their current area codes and will not be affected by the change, and the introduction of the new area code will not change the price of calls or the need for dialing the area code for local calls.
