  • Waymo said its vehicles will soon be seen in several Boston neighborhoods, Cambridge, Somerville and on major highways.

Waymo, a self-driving technology company, has announced plans to expand its operations into Boston, Cambridge, and Somerville, Massachusetts, as part of its mission to enhance urban mobility. The company, which is a subsidiary of Alphabet, Google's parent company, will initially focus on mapping and data collection to understand the unique challenges of these densely populated areas. Waymo's vehicles, equipped with advanced sensors and cameras, will be seen driving around these cities to gather essential data. The company aims to eventually offer ride-hailing and delivery services, contributing to safer and more efficient transportation options in the region. This expansion follows Waymo's successful operations in other cities like San Francisco and Phoenix, where it has been testing and refining its autonomous driving technology.
