Waymo voluntarily recalled 1,200 robotaxis

Waymo, the autonomous driving technology company under Alphabet, issued a voluntary recall for its entire fleet of 672 robotaxis due to a software error that could cause the vehicles to inaccurately predict the movement of a towed vehicle, potentially leading to collisions. This recall, which was reported to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), affects vehicles that have been operating in Phoenix, San Francisco, and Los Angeles. The issue was identified after two minor accidents involving Waymo vehicles and towed vehicles in Phoenix in December 2023. Waymo has already deployed a software update to address the problem, ensuring that the vehicles now correctly anticipate the movements of towed vehicles.
