  • The five separate studies are underway in Virginia Beach, Hampton, Newport News, James City County and York County.

The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) is currently seeking public input on transportation projects in the Fredericksburg area as part of the FY23-28 Six-Year Improvement Program. This initiative, known as the SMART SCALE program, aims to prioritize transportation improvements based on factors such as safety, congestion, accessibility, and economic development. VDOT is hosting a virtual public meeting on January 18, 2023, and accepting comments until January 27, 2023, to gather feedback on proposed projects like the I-95 interchange at Courthouse Road and the Route 17 widening. The public can participate in the meeting and submit comments through VDOT's website, emphasizing the importance of community involvement in shaping the region's transportation future.
