A significant sinkhole on Interstate 80 in New Jersey, first reported on March 24, 2023, led to the closure of the westbound lanes near the border with Pennsylvania, causing major traffic disruptions. The sinkhole, which was approximately 6 feet wide and 10 feet deep, was discovered after a truck driver noticed a dip in the road and alerted authorities. The New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) responded promptly, closing the affected lanes and initiating repair work. Videos and photos of the sinkhole circulated on social media, highlighting the severity of the damage. The NJDOT estimated that repairs would take several days, and they advised drivers to seek alternative routes during this period.
