There is a lot of talk about the east/west divide in Salt Lake City. Neighbors say the railroad tracks and freeways split the city in two, and a new study is looking for ways to change that, starting with a series of open house meetings.

A study conducted by researchers at the University of Michigan aims to address transportation barriers faced by older adults in rural areas. The study, funded by a $3.5 million grant from the National Institutes of Health, will explore the feasibility of using autonomous vehicles to improve mobility and access to healthcare and other essential services for this population. The research team will collaborate with local communities to identify specific transportation needs and develop tailored solutions. The study's findings could have significant implications for improving the quality of life and independence of older adults living in rural areas.
