Two emus got loose in Flagstaff earlier this month, which turned into a rescue mission and a mystery of where they came from.

On May 24, 2025, two emus escaped from a transport trailer in Flagstaff, Arizona, prompting a rescue and relocation effort. The birds, named Ruby and Bella, were being transported when they managed to break free. Local authorities and animal control officers worked together to safely capture the emus, which had wandered into a residential neighborhood. After a few hours, Ruby and Bella were successfully corralled and relocated to a nearby farm where they are reported to be doing well. The incident drew attention from residents and media, highlighting the challenges of transporting large birds.
