New carmaker Slate is trying to upend the automotive industry by producing a low-cost electric vehicle.

Slate, a new electric vehicle startup, has unveiled a no-frills, stripped-down electric pickup truck aimed at commercial and fleet buyers, with a starting price of $29,995. The truck, which Slate says will be available for delivery starting in late 2024, features a range of up to 250 miles on a single charge and a payload capacity of 2,500 pounds. The company, founded by former Tesla and Rivian executives, plans to focus on simplicity and affordability, targeting businesses and fleet operators looking for an affordable electric work truck. Slate's CEO, John Doe, stated that the company aims to "democratize electric vehicles" by offering a practical, cost-effective solution for commercial customers.
