The Chaffee County Sheriff's Office said an 18-wheeler was on the way to New Mexico delivering eggs Tuesday night when it caught fire.

On June 17, 2025, an 18-wheeler transporting eggs from New Mexico caught fire on I-25 in southern Colorado, leading to the closure of the highway in both directions. The incident occurred around 10 a.m. near the town of Walsenburg. Firefighters managed to extinguish the blaze, but not before the trailer and its cargo were destroyed. No injuries were reported, but the cleanup and investigation caused significant traffic delays. The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but initial reports suggest it may have started in the truck's engine compartment.
