A 32-year-old man from Thane was booked by the police for transporting 23 buffaloes in a cramped and unsafe truck, following a complaint by an animal rights activist. The incident occurred on Ghodbunder Road, where the activist noticed the distressed animals and alerted the authorities. The truck was found to be in violation of animal transport regulations, lacking proper space, ventilation, and safety measures for the buffaloes. The driver, identified as Mohammad Arif Mohammad Hanif, was charged under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act. The buffaloes were subsequently handed over to the Panjrapole animal shelter for care.
