The Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) is actively working to enhance nighttime visibility at intersections across the state to improve safety. This initiative follows a study that identified over 1,000 intersections needing better lighting, with UDOT planning to upgrade lighting at 540 of these locations. The project, which began in 2022, aims to reduce nighttime accidents by ensuring that drivers can see traffic signals and signs more clearly. UDOT has already completed upgrades at 140 intersections and is on track to finish the remaining by the end of 2024. The improvements are part of a broader effort to address the higher rate of fatal crashes that occur at night, with statistics showing that 40% of all fatal crashes in Utah happen during nighttime hours.
