Accident Involving Vehicle Transporting Hazardous Waste Shuts Down Ridgefield Road

Hazmat cleanup is happening now and is expected to take a few hours.
On April 12, 2023, a single-vehicle accident involving a truck carrying hazardous waste led to the closure of Ridgefield's Route 7 at the intersection of Haviland Road. The incident occurred around 11:30 a.m., prompting a response from the Ridgefield Fire Department and other emergency services. The truck driver sustained minor injuries and was transported to a local hospital. The hazardous materials were secured, and the road was closed for several hours to manage the situation and clean up the spill. The Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) was also involved to ensure the proper handling of the hazardous waste. The road has since been reopened to traffic.
