Key proposals include the mandatory installation of ramps and wheelchair-accessible areas in buses and other public transport vehicles. These changes aim to comply with the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016, and the Harmonised Guidelines and Space Standards for Universal Accessibility in India, 2021. The draft also suggests modifications to the Central Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989, to ensure that new vehicles meet these accessibility standards. Public feedback on these proposed amendments is being sought until August 8, 2023.
