Council announces new town parking restrictions

The Town Council of Smithfield has introduced new parking restrictions to address ongoing issues with traffic congestion and safety, effective immediately. The new rules prohibit parking on Main Street between 2nd and 5th Avenues from 7 AM to 9 AM and 4 PM to 6 PM on weekdays to ease rush hour traffic. Additionally, overnight parking is banned on all town streets from 2 AM to 6 AM to facilitate street cleaning and emergency vehicle access. Violators will face a $50 fine, with enforcement beginning one week after the announcement to allow residents time to adjust. The council encourages the use of the newly expanded public parking lot on 3rd Avenue as an alternative.
