The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has adopted final rules to facilitate the deployment of Cellular Vehicle-to-Everything (C-V2X) technology, aiming to enhance vehicle safety, mobility, and environmental benefits. C-V2X technology enables direct communication between vehicles, infrastructure, and other road users, potentially reducing accidents, improving traffic flow, and supporting autonomous driving systems. The rules establish a framework for the use of the 5.9 GHz band, previously allocated for Dedicated Short-Range Communications (DSRC), now repurposed for C-V2X to ensure efficient spectrum use. This decision comes after extensive stakeholder engagement and aims to provide a clear regulatory path for automakers, technology providers, and infrastructure developers to implement this advanced communication technology. The FCC's move is seen as a significant step towards modernizing transportation systems and fostering innovation in vehicle connectivity.
