GM said it sees a better business case in developing autonomous technology for personal cars rather than to develop robotaxis for Cruise.
General Motors (GM) has decided to end its Cruise robotaxi service following a series of safety incidents and regulatory scrutiny. The decision comes after a pedestrian was dragged by a Cruise vehicle in San Francisco, leading to the suspension of the company's driverless testing permit by the California Department of Motor Vehicles. This incident, along with other safety concerns, prompted a comprehensive safety review and a significant reduction in Cruise's operations. The move reflects broader challenges in the autonomous vehicle industry, where safety and public perception are critical for success.
