  • Germany's Continental plans to turn its ContiTech rubber and plastics division into an independent entity, it said on Tuesday, setting the company up to be a pure-play tire maker after the planned spin-off of its automotive segment.

Continental AG, a German automotive supplier, announced on April 8, 2025, its plan to separate its ContiTech rubber unit and likely put it up for sale, aiming to streamline its business and focus on its core automotive activities. The decision comes as part of a broader strategy to enhance profitability and competitiveness in the rapidly evolving automotive industry, particularly with the shift towards electric vehicles and digital technologies. The separation of ContiTech, which produces rubber products for various industries including automotive, is expected to be completed by late 2025, with potential buyers already being considered. This move is anticipated to allow Continental to better allocate resources and investments towards developing advanced technologies in areas such as autonomous driving, electric mobility, and vehicle connectivity.
