The Chairman of the Abossey Okai Spare Parts Dealers Association and President of the Ghana Auto Parts Dealers Association, Henry Okyere Jnr, has asked the general public to disregard any move by some drivers to increase transport fares.

The Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) and the Ghana National Association of Spare Parts Dealers have advised the public not to pay any new transport fares following an announcement by some transport operators about an impending fare increase. This statement comes in response to claims by the Concerned Drivers Association and the Transport Operators Union of Ghana, who had declared a 30% fare hike effective from March 7, 2024, due to rising fuel prices. However, GPRTU and the spare parts dealers have clarified that no such agreement has been reached with the government or other stakeholders, and they are currently in discussions to address the concerns of transport operators. They emphasized that any fare adjustment would be officially communicated after due process, urging passengers to disregard the announced fare increase and report any operators enforcing it to the union.
