  • The U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said on Thursday it had opened an engineering analysis into 129,092 U.S. Honda Motor vehicles after receiving reports of camera failure.

The U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has escalated its investigation into over 129,000 Honda vehicles due to issues with the automatic emergency braking system activating unexpectedly. This action follows a preliminary evaluation started in November 2023, prompted by 46 complaints from owners of 2020-2022 Honda Pilot, Accord, and CR-V models. The NHTSA's Office of Defects Investigation noted that these incidents often occurred at low speeds, leading to sudden stops that could increase the risk of rear-end collisions. The investigation has now moved to an engineering analysis phase, which is a step closer to potentially requiring a recall if a safety defect is confirmed. Honda has not yet provided a comment on this development.
