The U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has expanded its investigation into Ford's BlueCruise hands-free driving technology following two additional fatal crashes involving Mustang Mach-E vehicles. Initially launched in 2022, the probe now covers 125,000 vehicles and focuses on potential defects in the system's performance, particularly its ability to maintain driver attention and ensure safety. The investigation was spurred by incidents where Ford's advanced driver assistance system (ADAS) was active during collisions with stationary vehicles, raising concerns about the technology's effectiveness in real-world conditions. Ford has cooperated with the NHTSA, providing data and insights into the system's design and operation, while also emphasizing its commitment to safety and continuous improvement of its autonomous driving features.
