A consortium of stakeholders intends to roll out a universal plug-and-charge protocol for electric vehicles in the United States this year.

The article from The Cool Down discusses the introduction of the Universal Plug and Charge (UPC) system for electric vehicle (EV) charging stations, aimed at simplifying the charging process. The UPC initiative, backed by companies like General Motors, Ford, and ChargePoint, seeks to standardize charging across different networks, enhancing user experience by making it as straightforward as plugging in a smartphone. This move is seen as a significant step towards making EV charging more accessible and less cumbersome, potentially accelerating the adoption of electric vehicles by addressing one of the key barriers to EV ownership: the complexity of charging.
