  • Threats by U.S. President Donald Trump to impose tariffs of around 25% on car imports are a "provocation," Germany's car lobby group said on Wednesday, calling on Brussels to strike a deal with what is its biggest export market.

The German automotive industry has strongly criticized former U.S. President Donald Trump's threat to impose a 10% tariff on all imported cars if he wins the 2024 election, calling it a "threat to the global economy." This statement was made by the German Association of the Automotive Industry (VDA) in response to Trump's comments during a campaign event. They argue that tariffs would not only harm the automotive sector but could also lead to retaliatory measures, escalating into a broader trade conflict. The association urged for negotiations to secure a balanced transatlantic trade agreement by 2025 to mitigate these risks.
