On May 8, 2025, a 17-year-old juvenile detainee temporarily escaped custody in Scott County, Iowa, after kicking out a window of a transport van. The incident occurred around 9:30 a.m. when the teen, who was being transported from a juvenile detention facility to a court hearing, managed to break free by shattering the van's window. The escape prompted a brief manhunt, but the juvenile was apprehended approximately 30 minutes later near a wooded area about a mile from the escape site. No injuries were reported during the incident, and the teen faces additional charges related to the escape. The Scott County Sheriff's Office is reviewing its transport protocols to prevent future occurrences.
