US proposes building new air traffic control towers, radar systems

The U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has proposed a $1.66 billion project to modernize the air traffic control system in the New York, New Jersey, and Philadelphia regions, aiming to enhance safety and efficiency. This initiative, part of a broader effort to update the national airspace system, involves replacing outdated equipment and infrastructure at several key facilities, including the New York and Philadelphia Terminal Radar Approach Control (TRACON) facilities. The project is expected to be completed by 2030 and will help accommodate the growing demand for air travel in one of the busiest airspaces in the world. The funding for this project will come from a combination of federal grants and user fees, and it is subject to environmental reviews and public feedback before final approval.
