The Maharashtra transport department has proposed the closure of 16 Regional Transport Office (RTO) border posts, a move that would entail a cost of Rs 504 crore. This proposal comes in response to the central government's decision to abolish state border check posts, aiming to streamline interstate transport and reduce delays. The funds would be used to establish 44 new RTOs and 68 automated testing stations across the state, enhancing the efficiency of vehicle inspections and registrations. The plan also includes the introduction of advanced technology for vehicle fitness testing and the creation of new job opportunities within the transport sector.
