Large-Scale LI-Based Trafficking Operation Transported Fentanyl, Cocaine Across U.S.: Feds

The group distributed over 235 kilos of cocaine and 20 kilos of fentanyl; its leader was charged in a 2023 slaying on LI, feds say.
A large-scale drug trafficking operation based on Long Island, involving the transportation of cocaine and methamphetamine across the United States, was dismantled by federal authorities, resulting in the arrest of 20 individuals. The operation, which spanned from California to New York, was led by Jose LaLuna, who allegedly used a network of drivers and stash houses to move drugs. The drugs were transported in vehicles equipped with hidden compartments, and the operation was uncovered through a joint effort by the FBI, DEA, and local law enforcement. The arrests were part of a broader initiative by the Department of Justice to combat drug trafficking and organized crime, with the seized drugs having an estimated street value in the millions of dollars.
