  • The federal government says it is committed to utilising Nigeria's natural resources for local production such as electric vehicles.

The Nigerian government, as stated by Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Dele Alake, is focusing on processing its lithium reserves to support the production of electric vehicles (EVs). This initiative is part of a broader strategy to diversify the economy away from oil dependency. Alake highlighted that Nigeria has substantial lithium deposits, which are crucial for EV batteries, and the government is keen on developing this resource to meet global demand for sustainable energy solutions. He mentioned ongoing efforts to attract investment and technology for lithium processing, aiming to create a value chain that would not only boost the economy but also position Nigeria as a key player in the EV market. Additionally, the minister emphasized the importance of local processing to add value to the raw materials before export, thereby enhancing economic benefits and job creation within the country.
