The article from MSN reports that South Africa has experienced a significant increase in road fatalities during the 2024-25 festive season, reaching a new high. According to the Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC), there were 1,451 road deaths recorded, marking a 14% rise compared to the previous year. The Eastern Cape saw the highest number of fatalities, followed by KwaZulu-Natal and Gauteng. The increase is attributed to several factors including drunk driving, speeding, and poor road conditions. The RTMC has launched several initiatives to curb this trend, including increased law enforcement visibility, road safety campaigns, and stricter penalties for traffic violations. Despite these efforts, the numbers indicate a worrying trend in road safety during the holiday period.
