  • The U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said on Tuesday it had opened a probe into about 2.6 million Tesla vehicles over issues related to the EV maker's feature dubbed "Actually Smart Summon".

The U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has initiated an investigation into approximately 260,000 Tesla vehicles due to concerns over the functionality of the Autopilot system. This probe was prompted by incidents where Tesla vehicles, operating under Autopilot, crashed into stationary emergency vehicles. The investigation will assess the system's ability to ensure driver attentiveness and its overall safety performance. This follows a previous recall of over 2 million Tesla vehicles to enhance driver monitoring features. The NHTSA's scrutiny focuses on whether Tesla's current updates adequately address the risks associated with Autopilot, particularly in scenarios involving stationary vehicles.
