AUSTIN (KXAN) — The family of a man shot and killed in Bastrop County earlier this year gathered Monday at the Bastrop County courthouse to demand justice and announced they filed a civil lawsuit against the mother of the teenager accused in his death ...
The family of a Bastrop man, who was killed in a car crash involving a 14-year-old driver, has filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the teenager's mother. The incident occurred on January 10, 2023, when the teen, driving a 2006 Toyota Tundra, crashed into the victim's vehicle on FM 1209. The lawsuit claims that the mother was negligent in allowing her son to drive without a license, supervision, or insurance, and that she failed to properly supervise him, knowing his history of reckless behavior. The crash resulted in the death of the 45-year-old man, and the lawsuit seeks damages for his pain and suffering, mental anguish, and loss of companionship, among other claims. The teen was charged with manslaughter, and the case has drawn attention to issues of parental responsibility and juvenile driving laws.
