Gaza, a narrow strip of land along the Mediterranean coast, is home to over two million Palestinians, many of whom live in dire poverty under a blockade imposed by Israel and Egypt since 2007, when Hamas, a militant Islamist group, took control of the territory. The blockade severely restricts the movement of goods and people, contributing to chronic shortages of essential supplies, including food, medicine, and fuel. Unemployment rates are among the highest in the world, and the majority of residents rely on humanitarian aid to survive.
