The increased ridership on West Oahu buses, particularly on routes like the 40, 42, and C, has led to calls for a comprehensive transportation study to address the growing demand and improve service. Despite receiving $1.2 million in federal funds for the West Oahu shuttle service, local officials and residents, including Kapolei Neighborhood Board member Denise Iseri-Matsubara, argue that the current system is insufficient. The study, proposed by the Honolulu City Council, aims to assess the need for more frequent service, additional routes, and better integration with other transportation options like TheBus and Skyline rail. The urgency for this study is underscored by the significant population growth in West Oahu and the need to ensure efficient and reliable public transportation for the community.
