  • The U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said on Monday it is expanding and upgrading a probe into about 295,125 American Honda vehicles over reports of crashes and injuries due to their automatic emergency braking systems.

The U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has initiated an investigation into approximately 29,500 Honda Insight and Honda Passport vehicles from the 2020 and 2021 model years due to reports of inadvertent automatic emergency braking. The probe was prompted by 46 complaints, with 31 of these incidents involving crashes, although no injuries have been reported. The complaints describe the automatic emergency braking system activating unexpectedly, often when no obstacle was present, leading to sudden vehicle deceleration or stopping. This issue could potentially increase the risk of rear-end collisions. Honda has not yet provided a comment on the investigation.
