Another Newark airport disruption as Trump's transportation secretary talks of reducing flights

  • Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy says he plans to reduce the number of flights in and out of Newark's airport for the "next several weeks" as it struggles with radar outages and other issues, including another Sunday that again slowed air traffic.

At Newark Liberty International Airport, a power outage in Terminal A caused significant disruptions, halting security screenings and baggage handling, and leading to flight delays and cancellations. This incident occurred as Pete Buttigieg, President Joe Biden's nominee for Transportation Secretary, plans to address the issue of flight reductions at the airport, which is one of the nation's most delay-prone. The power outage, which lasted about 90 minutes, affected the terminal's ability to process passengers efficiently, exacerbating the airport's existing challenges with congestion and delays.
