Health care utilization shifts among long COVID patients highlighted in new study

A recent study published in the journal *JAMA Health Forum* has highlighted significant shifts in healthcare utilization among patients with long COVID. The research, which analyzed data from over 1.7 million individuals, found that those with long COVID symptoms had a 2.5 times higher rate of outpatient visits, a 1.5 times higher rate of hospitalizations, and a 1.7 times higher rate of emergency department visits compared to those without long COVID. The study also noted increased use of telehealth services among this group, suggesting a need for ongoing medical attention and management of symptoms that persist beyond the acute phase of the infection. These findings underscore the substantial burden long COVID places on both patients and the healthcare system, emphasizing the need for tailored healthcare strategies to address this growing issue.
