The Swamitva Yojana, launched by the Indian government, aims to provide rural residents with clear ownership of their properties through the use of drone surveys and the creation of a comprehensive property record. This initiative, which began on April 24, 2020, seeks to resolve property disputes, enhance socio-economic development, and improve financial access by enabling property owners to use their land as collateral for loans. Under this scheme, properties are mapped using drones, and ownership records are digitized and linked to a Geographic Information System (GIS). The benefits include the issuance of property cards (Gharauni) to owners, which helps in establishing legal ownership, reducing land disputes, and facilitating better planning for infrastructure development. The scheme primarily benefits rural households by providing them with documented property rights, thereby fostering economic growth and empowerment at the grassroots level.
